The genesis of the Foundation is the story of LT Brendan Looney, US Navy SEAL and 2004 United States Naval Academy graduate, who was killed in southern Afghanistan when his Black Hawk helicopter crashed during combat operations in 2010. While in high school and at the US Naval Academy, LT Looney was an active member of the football and lacrosse teams. He recognized the value amateur athletics could play in the lives of young men and women and the unifying effect of amateur athletics among diverse groups of people.
To honor the legacy of LT Looney, and support the lives of thousands of other military men and women like him, Brothers in Arms Foundation will host annual sporting events as one part of the Foundation’s overall activities. The events are designed to increase awareness of military service and support assistance programs for active members of the United States military, veterans, and their families while highlighting the importance of community service.
